Health Insurance
Health care is a high concern of our members. The cost of health care keeps getting more expensive every day. Members can't concentrate on their jobs if they are worrying about how they are going to pay for health care for themselves or their dependents. Let's face the facts, Obama Care provided nothing to the average tradesman if he made any kind of wages and who's to say if it will be there tomorrow.
That's why the Local Union negotiates health care for their members and their families. Some open shop contractors are providing health insurance for their employees, but often they charge extra for their families to be covered and have extremely high copays if you or family were to be hospitalized. Local 505 members receive family health care with no paycheck deduction and have reasonable copays.
The Health Fund is a "self funded" Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance program. This means that employer contributions to the Fund primarily pay the health expenses that you and your fellow participants incur. Each time you need medical care, you may go directly to the doctor of your choice. However, you have the option of using a PPO provider, which almost all Dr's. are, and reducing your share and the Fund's share of the cost.
You and your family become eligible for benefits the first of the month following completion of 450 hours in covered employment. You continue to be covered from one coverage quarter to the next, provided you work at least 450 hours in a quarter.
The Fund provides comprehensive family coverage, which includes:
Most importantly, these benefits are provided 100% by the union employer with no payroll deduction from your hard earned wages.
